March 16. “ Silhouette ’’ Party. A most successful “Silhouette” party was given by Mrs. Middleton on Thursday evening, and caused much fun. Miss 'lda Lundon won the ladies’ first prize, and Mr. Innes Taylor the gentlemen’s first prize. Later on there was a smelling competition, Miss Ethel Hill winning first prize. The rest of the evening was spent in games and dancing. A charming supper was served during the evening. Mrs. Middleton received her guests in a pretty grey and white French muslin trimmed with lace, and a touch of black; Miss Margaret Middleton wore pink silk, with silver embroidery; Miss Hull (Auckland), frock of white muslin; Miss Wells, white silk with overdress of white ninon; Miss Vida Caldwell, white spotted net over silk, trimmed with embroidery; Miss Hally, 'black satin charmeuse; Miss Alice Hally, a frock of white muslin; Miss Brooks, white muslin ; Miss E. Hill, frock of pale pink charmeuse; Miss Keys, pale green satin; Miss M. Pickering, white embroidered muslin; Miss N. Pickering, flowered voile; Miss K. Tate (Greytown), pink flowered voile; Miss M. Roberts looked sweet in moonlight blue voile, with point lace yoke: Miss Lundon, primrose ninon with wide band of satin; Miss Myra Taylor, creme net with touch of yellow; Miss B. Taylor, pale pink crepe de chine; Miss A. Lundon, white muslin frock; Miss Gwen Roberts. a frock of pale blue charmeuse, with a touch of deeper blue on the bodice. The Young People. On Friday evening Miss Gwynneth had a small young people’s party. Much amusement was caused by them all arriving wearing absurd masks and dressing gowns over their evening dresses. After they' had guessed each other’s identities, they retired to unmask. Several competitions were held, the gramophone gave several selections, and guests danced on the verandah which extends round three sides of the house, and with songs and recitations the evening passed quickly. Miss Gwynneth received her guests in black silk and net gown; Mrs. Caldwell was wearing a black and white striped gown, with black satin revers; Miss Mvra Tavlor, a little muslin frock, trimmed with Valenciennes lace nnd pin tucks; Miss Gwen Roberts, a frock of hailstone muslin and lace; Miss V. Caldwell, a frock of white muslin nnd embroidery Angtaisc: Miss Mary Roberts, a frock of pale blue with point lace

yoke; Miss Alice Hally, in white muslin trimmed with allover eurbroiuery; Miss K. Tate (Greytown), a frock of white muslin trimmed with lace insertion. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. J. Philips and family left Cambridge on Wednesday by the Main Trunk for Wellington, where they will stay until the 18th April, when they leave by’the Athenic for England.
