February 24th. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Souter entertained a large number of friends at a garden party at their pretty home at Pukekolre. The weather was not all it might have been, showers falling during the afternoon. Notwithstanding this, between 50 and CO responded to the invitation. Mr. and Mrs. Souter had gone to endless trouble for the amusement of the guests. Croquet was played on the lawn, and there were swings and see-saws for the children. A delicious afternoon tea was served under the trees, and there were quantities of lovely fruit. Mrs. Souter received her guests in a white muslin gown and large white hat, trimmed with brown; Mrs. E. Souter, white muslin frock and large white hat trimmed with black; Mrs. Mervyn Wells, champagne coloured Shantung, piped with blue, and mole-coloured hat, trimmed with blue; Miss Wells, white embroidered muslin, and vieux rose-col-oured hat, trimmed with roses the same shade; Mrs. C’ouper, pale grey summer tweed coat and skirt and brown Pierrot hat; Mrs. Hally, mole-coloured coat and skirt, and Panama hat with motor veil; Miss Lewis, white linen costume and Royal blue toque; Mrs. Chitty, black satin gown and black toque; Miss Chitty, white crepon frock and large black hat; Mrs. E. E. Roberts, tweed eoat and skirt and large blaek hat; Mrs. Nieoll, cham-pagne-coloured muslin, trimmed with lace and nattier blue silk, large blaek hat with white lace rosette and blaek hanging veil; Miss Gwynneth. blaek crystalline, white tucked net yoke and sleeves and blaek toque; Mrs. Crowther, white linen froek and putty-coloured hat with wreath of roses; Mrs. Norman Banks, tussore silk coat and skirt and large hat with wreath of pink roses; Miss Banks, brown coat and skirt and hat to match; Mrs. C. Hunter, grey and white striped eoat and skirt and black hat, trimmed with grey and white striped ribbon bows; Mrs. Wallace Hunter, champagne - coloured Shantung, piped with vieux rose, and hat to match; Mrs, Bunyard, navy blue coat and sklrf. and burnt straw hat, trimmed with blaek; Mrs. Alan Bell, navy blue coat and skirt and blaek hat; Mrs. Thompson, grey and white striped coat and skirt and black and white Pierrot hat; Miss Middleton, white muslin froek and large black hat with pink roses; Miss P. Ferguson, navy blue linen and white hat; Miss Hull, navy blue linen, piped with pale blue, and white hat; Miss Russell, white muslin frock and white crinoline' straw hat, trimmed with white. Personal. The Bishop of Bendigo and Mrs. Langley are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. Ellis, of “The Lightwoods,” Cambridge. Miss Attfield left on Wednesday to pay a round of visits in Auckland. Mrs. Norman Campbell, of Wanganui, who has been the guest of Mrs. Wells, of “Oakkigh” for the last fortnight, left by the Main Trunk bn Sunday night for Wanganui. The Misses Ferguson, of Epsom, Auckland, are staying at “The Carlton”, for a fortnight. Miss Kathleen Tait, of Greytown, is staying with Mrs. Caldwell. Archdeacon Walsh has left for Auckland, and will go on to Taranaki for a visit. He expects to be away for three weeks. Mrs. Farnall, of Auckland, is at present staying with Mrs. Hally, of “Valina i.”
