December 10. Sweet Pea Show. At the Sweet Pea Show there was an excellent array of blooms, although a large number of entries failed to come forward. The recent bad weather spoiled many of the sweet pea blossoms. The judges of the decorative classes were Alesdames J. B. Kells, C, Agnew Brown, and E. Espie, whilst all the other classes were judged by- Afessrs E. Bull and G. Grant. Lady Carroll's Garden Party. Lady Carroll hospitably entertained a large gathering of friends and supporters of the Native Minister. The announcement of the gift of the valuable section of land for the new Children’s Creche proved to be the feature of the afternoon, and was made in truly native fashion. Lady Carroll received her friends gowned in a black silk frock, over which sho wore a- handsome kiwi mat, and she carried a valuable mere patu wliaika. Lady Carroll expressed her gratitude for the great honour bestowed upon her hueband by the King, and also more recently by the electors of Gisborne in returning him unopposed. The children-of the creche were present under the charge of the matron, and their healthy and tidy- appearance evoked warm praise. A Christmas Tree was provided for the young folk, and was greatly appreciated, while the elder people were entertained by a haka given bythe students of Te Ran College and other natives present.

Person*!. The many friends of Afm Vincent Pyke will be pleased to hear that she has recovered sufficiently from her recent illness to go for a change to Cambridge. All’s and Miss Pyke leave on Wednesday. The Misses lAlamli have returned to < hristehiireh. Airs Margoliouth his left Gisborne for a visit to Hawke's Bay. Dr. Porter has left Gisborne for a change after his long illness. ELSA.
