THE FIRST PILE OF A BIG BRIDGE TO SPAN THE WAIKATO AT A COST OF £17-500.
The first pile of tin* Waikato combined railway and traffic bridge was driven on October 23. The bridge, with tin* railway it will carry, will greatly increase the importance and potentialities of Iluntly. and the big coal bearing district surrounding it. The first sod of the new Iluntly-Pukemiro branch line was turned on the same day. The new bridge, which will cost L17.5M0. will be 900 feet in length, with ten spans. In the construction of the bridge there will be used 172 tons of cement. 1.033 cubic yards of concrete. 270 tons of steel. 149.740 feet of jarrah. ami 40,000 feet of Australian iron bark.
