NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD.

LONDON, September 22. Mr and Mrs A. A. Martin and family’, of Auckland, have just returned from a motor tour extending through England, Scotland and Wales, and including the Cornish Riviera, having had a delightful time. Mr Martin intends visiting Germany next week, and on his return from there makes a flying visit to New York, returning to New Zealand about the end of the year. Mr George Barnes, son of Mr James

Barnes, of Mt Albert, Auckland, has just returned' from a trip to Bpjiyia, where he spent some eight months in the service of the Bolivia Antifagastb Railway Company. For ’ the' last few day's Barnes has been in Germany, and he sails for New Zealand from London next month. ■ Mr and Mrs F. A. Mellish, two well-, to-do English people, leave England in about ten' days’ time laden with camp paraphernalia for no less than two years' troui t fishing in the Dominion. They starti sport at Taupo, and if, after two years* experiment, they like New Zealand, they*, will probably settle there altogether. ■ Mr and Mrs Alfred Kidd, of Auckland, who intended to return to New Zealand some little time ago, have let their house in Auckland for some months still, arid will not go home fill next March. They have been travelling very extensively in Ireland and in England, and are now in Scotland. The Maori troupe has returned to the Festival of Empire at the Crystal Palace, its agreement with the White City having terminated on the 16th of this month. Eleven of the members have remained, however, and give an entertainment in the little Maori theatre at the White City, Bella and her husband and Oporo—whose husband died on the voyage over—and her children among them. The troupe sails for New Zealand by the Somerset on November 11. The “Daily Telegraph” of Tuesday contained . the following note: --“The Bishop of Dunedin and Primate of New Zealand lias arranged to return to his diocese on October 26," and fully intends, should health permit, to resume his duties as. Primate over the province to which he has given 40 years’ strenuous service. On a former’visit to Erig-' land, Dr. NevilJ was offered an assistant bishropie here by the late Archbishop Benson, but preferred continuing his work in New Zealand.” Recent callers at the High Commissioner’s office:—-Mr. P. Young (Timaru), Mr. and Mrs. R. Johnston (Christchurch), Mr. and Mrs. E. Roberts (Dunedin), Miss I. Kilgour (Greymouth), Air. and Mrs. Wright (Invercargill). Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Furby, of Auckland, arrived in London by the Orvieto on the 16th inst., having spent a very enjoyable time in the principal ’ Australian eities en route. The New Zealanders are at present at 33, Kensington Gardens Square, W. Kensington, and propose remaining in London for a few months, and in the spring touring England and the Continent. They will probably not return to New Zealand until the end of next year. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Roberts, of Dunedin, have, since the Coronation, spent their time visiting Canterbury, which is Mrs. Roberts’ native town, Ramsgate, Cornwall, and oilier places in England, and have had delightful holidays with friends in various beauty spots in Scotland. The English Lakes and Shakespeare's county, Oxford, etc., have been visited since the Scotch trip. They leave by the Orvieto on the 29th inst. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Tennant, of Wellington; and Miss Zohrab, of Wellington, who is travelling with them, arrived in this country by the Macedonia in July, and since then have spent five weeks travelling about Scotland. For the past fortnight the New Zealanders have been in London, and they now have gone for -a tom- of France and' Switzerland. On their return, they go to Derbyshire and the South of England to visit relatives. They return to New Zealand, via Suez, in December. The Cambridge University Press announces that it will shortly add-to the series of Cambridge Manuals of Science and Literature: “The Dominion of New' Zealand,” by Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice of New Zealand, and Mr. J. Logan Stout, barrister of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. Mr. E. W: Christmas, the well-known New Zealand artist, is now out in Buenos -Ayres on a painting expeditioi) and does not expect to return to tiiH country until next June.
