October 27. Bridge. The bridge drive, which took place last week at the Cadena Tea Rooms, ■:n aid of the .Society for the Health of Women and Children, proved a great sueeess, and was very well attended. Amongst those present were:—Mrs. and Miss Boyle, Mrs. and the Misses Pyne, Mrs. H. F. Wigram, Mrs. H. H. Loughnan, Mr. and ‘ Mrs. C. Reid, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, ■Miss Symes, Miss Macdonald, Miss C. Wilson, Misses Reeves, Denniston, Mur-ray-Aynsley, Helmore, Cuthbert, Anderson (2), Mrs. A. Reeves, Mrs. M. Campbell, .Mrs. T. Gowlishaw, Miss Cowlishaw, Mr. And Mrs. Butterworth, Messrs. Anderson, Brittan, Barnett, Campbell, Godby, and Harper. Farewell Tea. The Victoria League are entertaining Mrs. Chilton at an afternoon tea today. at the residence of Mrs. George Hanmer, Ferry road, as a farewell to Dr. and Mrs. Chilton, who are leaving for a year’s visit to England. A Concert. A most successful concert was given in the Theatre Royal on Wednesday evening by Mrs. Arthur Meade and Mr. Ernest Empscm, L.R.A.M., assisted by Messrs. Vere, Buchanan, and L. Bonnmgton. Mrs. Meade wore a handsome gown of eau de nil satin veiled with while net, heavily embroidered with silver sequins. She received some beautiful flowers. Miss Florence Hayward, who played the accompaniments most artistically, wore a white silk frock, with silver fringe and embroidery. Amongst the large audience were: — Mesdanies Denniston, Loughnan, Stringer, Vernon, de Vries, Clark, Hallenstein, Jahnings, Monteith, Bruce (Timaru), Maneb, Gossett, Diamond, Alan Campbell, Misses Pyne, Pratt, Anderson, Kitson, Berkeley, Slater, Bathgate, Loughnan, Gossett, Greenwood, Prins. Personal. Mr., Mrs. and Miss Overton (Christchurch) have returned from a visit to the North Island. Mrs. Beswick, Carlton-atreet, Alerivale, returned from the North Island last week. Mrs. Nancarrow (Christchurch I is paying a visit to Mrs. Donald McLean (Mt. Hutt). Miss Deniiiston has returned to C hristcliurcli from Wellington and Levin, where she has been staying with friends. Mr. and Mrs. (Sinclair-Thompson, who have been the guests of .Mrs. G. Gould
(Fendalton), have returned to Woodbury. Mrs. A. Williams (St. Andrews) has been staying with Mrs. Palmer (“Woodford,” Papanui-ro&d). Mrs. Cuthbert Gresson has returned to Timaru. Miss Turner (Christchurch) is visiting friends in Timaru. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Anderson (Christchurch) left here last week for Sydney to join the R.M.s. Orsova for Egypt, where they will remain for some little time, and then will go on to Europe. The Misses Humphreys (Christchurch) and Miss Denniston (Christchurch) have (been spending a few days at Sumner. ■Miss Cowlishaw (Christchurch) returned on Tuesday from a short trip to Hanmer. Airs. G. F. Ronalds (Christchurch) returned from Wellington on Wedneeday, and left on Thursday afternoon for Mt. Hutt. Mrs. C. F. Thomas (Christchurch), who has been visiting Mrs. Acton Adams (Tipapa), has returned to town. Misses Nancarrow, Russell, and M. Molineaux left Christchurch on Monday for Mt. Somers, to be present at Miss
