September 8. Bridge. Mrs. Stubbs entertained the members of the Bridge Club on Friday evening. Mrs. Stubbs was wearing blaek satin; Mrs. Carey (Blenheim), blaek silk voile, cream insertion; Mrs. Glasgow, black silk, trimmed handsome jet and lace garniture; Mrs. Richards, amethyst velvet, relieved with ecru lace; Mrs. Cardale, soft white and blue silk and net; Mrs. Rennell, reseda taffeta, guipure trimmings; Mrs. Grant, black voile; Mrs. Chinchin, blaek charmeuse, cream net garniture. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Malone have been spending a few days in Wanganui. Mr. E. C. Robinson has returned from n visit to Auckland. Miss Peerless (Nelson) is the guest of Mrs. Raikes. September 15. A New Parish Hall. It has long been the wish of the parishioners of Holy Trinity- Church to possess a parish hall. By the zealous efforts of an energetic band of workers, who liberally donated money-, labour aiffl advice, a few short months saw that want sonsummated, and last Wednesday His Lordship the Bishop of Auckland opened the building. Despite the unfavourable weather, the hall, which had been beautifully decorated with bunting, tree ferns, etc., was crowded with enthusiastic helpers. The Bishop made a very happy speech, congratulated the people on their admirable efforts, and urged them to make a strong attempt to pay the small remaining sum needed, and start the hall free of debt before he left the district. A very good musical programme was gone through, the local orchestra adding in no small measure to the success of the concert. Several vocal items were acceptably rendered by various members of the choir.

A Dance. Mrs F. W. Wake entertained a number of young people at a dance at her pretty home, Regan-street, on Wednesday. 'Hie house was moat artistically decorated with lovely spring flowers. The delectable dainties of the supper table were spread beneath a perfect bower of glorious bulbs. Mrs Wake was becom ingly gowned in black net over taffeta, berthe of handsome jet and ecru laee; Miss Wake looked very well in cream taffeta and crystal galon; Miss Freda Wake, salmon taffeta, trimmed with Oriental silk guipure; Miss Hamilton (Hawera), coronation pink satin: Miss O’Brien, cream net over silk; Miss Orbell, turquoise blue charmeuse, relieved with black velvet; Miss Lois Bayly, lilac charmeuse, with silver passementerie; Miss James, lettuce green silk, drapings of beaded net; Miss Nancy James, becoming vieux rose creponne and fancy galons; Miss Peerless, white net over silk trimmed sequined galon; Miss Curtis, cream dress and laee; Miss Stronach, pale blue Stantung; Miss Joyce Munro, white muslin; Messrs. Vaughan, Fussell, James (2), Crawshaw (2), Jones, Robinson, Howarth (Inglewood), Anderson, Curtis, Knyvett, Malone. Personal. The Bishop of Auckland, Dr. Crossley, and nephew are the guests of the Rev. VV. A. Butler (the Vicarage). Dr. and Mrs Hogg (Wellington), who have been spending some days with Mr and Mrs Glasgow, left by motor car for their home on Friday. Mr W. H. Young and Mrs Johnstone, Bank of Australasia, were passengers by the mail train on Tuesday en route for Ch list church. Mrs W. C. Raikes left for Auckland and Whangarei on Monday. Miss Lois Bayly (Auckland) and Miss Sybil Hamilton (Hawera) are the guests of Mrs Wake.
