September 7. Surprise Party. A very jolly little surprise party at Mrs. Carmichael’s, “To Hapara,” got up by Mrs. Blair and Miss Bradley, took place last Tuesday evening. Airs. Carmichael, black lace over white satin; Mrs. Harney, black erepe de chene; Airs. Blair, blue floral net over eau de nil, bands of white insertion; Miss BrookeTaylor, spangled crepe de chene; Miss Bradley, white satin, tuned fringe and
white velvet; Miss Foster, pale piijc satin; Miss Agnew Brown, white ninon over satin; Miss Davies, cream net, trimmed gold; Miss H. Black, vieux rose crepe de chene: Miss Nolan, pale blue ninon over satin; Mi*-* Stewart, pink ninon over satin; Miss M. Williamson, emerald green satin, silver embroideries and girdle; Miss Bennett, green velvet; Miss Chrisp, dainty white net and lace; Miss Carter, pale pink net over satin, touches of black velvet; Miss Evans, canary velvet, touches of emerald green: Messrs. Sheirniing, Jeffries, Nolaji. W’illock. Twine, Bennett„ Kells, Coate, Fulton Curtis. Personal. Mrs. WiiToek (Gisborne) is at present the guest of her sister (Mrs. Hart, Ashburton ). Mr. and Mrs. E. Matthews (Gisborne) are visiting Rotorua and Opotiki. Mrs. Carlyon returned from Auckland last week. Mrs. Gaddmu is visiting her sister, Mrs. Jamieson, of Hawke's Bay. Dr. (Joker (Gisborne) left last Saturday tor Sydney.
