AUCKLAND.

August Cth. THE most important feature of the social round this past week was the Mayoress’ (Mrs. C. J. Parr's) reception, and the series of gaieties arranged for the annual King’s Old Boys' demonstrations, which began with a huge theatre party to the pantomime on Friday night, when, I believe, the fun was fast and furious. Then luncheon at the Tiffin on Saturday, Kings v. Grammar football match, when the ‘ old boys” made just as much noise as “present boys,” much to the public’s enjoyment, dinner at the.

Tiffin, and church parade next morning, and dinner with "the Head” and Mrr Major finished a delightful “week-end.” Reception by the Mayoress. The Mayoress, Mrs C. J. Parr, gave her second reception in the Council Chambers on Tuesday. The rooms were charmingly decorated. The Council Chamber, where the Mayoress received her guests, had been quite transformed, banks of foliage plants and flowers were arranged in the centre of the room and across the corners; festoons of lycopodium from the centre of the ceiling to the four corners of the room. Yellow shaded lights, and a long tea table at the end of the room, beautifully decorated with mimosa and violets, made, a channing decorative scheme. The table

decoration* were done by Mrs 11. Wilson and Miss Devore. 'Mrs Parr and the Mayor received the callers just within the Council Chambers, and they passed on and whiled away the time chattipg and listening to charming music by a violin and piano, and tea-drinking, waited on by a bery of Mrs Parr’s kind friends, who looked after everyone charmingly. Mrs Parr was very much admired in a lovely frock of nattier blue moire -ilk. with beautiful embroideries on it. A large picture hat massed with feathers in a. deep tone of blue.
