July 7. On the Links. The fine weather and a lack of indoor festivities tempted the ladies on to the links, twice during the week. Last Friday a very enjoyable afternoon was spent in a “putting” competition, when Mrs. Cardale was. the successful claimant for the trophy. Again on Tuesday, when khe day was glorious, several ladies turned up to play for Mrs. Budge’s trophy. Miss F. Orbell being the fortunate winner. The players were: Mesdaines Menzies. Hogg, Glasgow, Cardale, Copping. Carey (Blenheim). Budge, Budd, Messrs. Orbell (2), Fussell. A medal competition for men was played last week, which resulted in Mr. D. ('ardale topping the list with a score of 92. Other players were Messrs Fussell. S. Spence, Stanford. Thompson and Reader. Mrs. W. G. Malone gave a skating party on Alonday afternoon for children, which they one and all declared to be “awfully jolly.” Airs. Birss, the energetic organising secretary of the Girls Peace Scouts, entertained a number of the girls on r l hursday evening. Games and competition, music arid a bountiful supper were not the least important items on the programme. Personal. Airs and Aliss Wake have been spending a few days in New Plymouth. Aliss Joyce Glynes has returned to Auckland. Air. Jackson, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, has been transferred to Alanaia. Airs. ATunro and Aliss Joyce Afunro left for Wellington on Friday, for a month’s holiday.
