'fhrs paper has been appointed the official organ of the Ladies' Golf Union, 9iew Zealand branch. Secretaries of ladies' golf clubs are invited to forward official notices, handicaps and alterations, results of competitions, and other matters of interest, to reach the publishing office not later than the Saturday pnior to date of publico* tion.

AUCKLAND. Tf F LOT of interesting golf has been / I played during the past week, r —l Coronation Day was fully taken advantage of by numbers of golfers, who spent a most enjoyable day on the links. During the week the semi- ■ final matches of “A” grade were played in the captain’s tourney, when Mr A. M. Ilowden defeated W. B. Colbeck one up, and J. C. Burns won from 11. D. Bamford 6 up and 5 to paly. The final between Ilowden and Burns will be played next Saturday. In the “B” grade Jas. Frater beat E. A. Craig, 2 up. The semi-final in the “B” grade was played on Saturday, and resulted as follows:—W. W. Bruce beat A. Carrick, 5 and 4; and A. Kinder beat James Frater, 2 up. The finals in both grades will be played next Saturday, when A.’ M. Ilowden will meet J. Burns in the “A” grade, and W. W. Bruce will play A. Kinder in the ■*B” grade.

Auckland v. Waitemata.

"A teams match between members of the above clubs was played on Saturday on the Middlemore Park course, when the home team won by the narrow margin of one match—five games to four. Two games finished all square. The results are as follows, the Auckland players being mentioned first in each game: — Upton lost to Howden, Dargaville lost to Pennman, MacCormick and (Houston all square, Lusk beat Smythe, Burge and Johns all square, 11. Horton beat Sutton, Hanna lost to Hansen, Tonks beat Stringer, Gilfillan lost to Foster, Lawrence beat McNeill, Macintosh beat Wilson.

Maungakiekie. Mixed foursomes were played on Saturday by the members of the above club. The weather was showery, and the course heavy. Prizes were presented by Mr. W. T. Gulliver. There was a tie for first place. Mr. and Mrs. A. Ferguson, and Mr. and Mrs. T. Ball returned net ecores of 44 for ten holes. The fallowing were the best cards returned:—Mr. and Mrs. Ball, (12, handicap 18, net 44; Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson, 61—17, 44; Gardner and "Miss Scott, 72—21, 51; D. WELLINGTON. "Wellington v. Miramar. (By Telegraph.—Own Cnrresnoudeut.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The annual match between these two flubs was played to-day at Miramar, and resulted in a win for Wellington by live games to three. A cold southerly Wind sweeping across the links imide tilings very unpleasant, and the golf was most indifferent. The most in'l ’resting match of the day was that between A. Duncan and R. L. D. Kidston, which finished all square. 'Kidston is to be congratulated on halving the match with the open champion of New Zealand. Hutt v. Miramar. A team of Hutt players visited Miramar on Coronation day and indicted a somewhat severe defeat on the local players. The Miramar links are now in splendid order, the greens iu particular being first class. The addition of several new holes, one of which is 528 yards long, has improved the course greatly, and there is not the same waiting and crowding as in former years. A ninehole putting course has been laid down in front of the club house, and this will shortly be Toady for use. Details of the match are as follows, Hutt players being mentioned first: — H. R. H. CAMBRIDGE. Cambridge v. Hamilton. A team of seven men from the Hamilton Club motored through to Cambridge early on Coronation Day and played singles in the morning and four ball matches in the afternoon against mem hers of the Cambridge Club. The Cambridge links are in splendid order this year in view of the approaching South Auckland championships to be held here in August. The following are the results of the matches played, Cambridge men being mentioned first in each case: —. SINGLES. A. 11. Njcoll defeated F. L. Minter, 3 •and 2; M. Wells defeated E. F. Bond, 2 up; T. Middleton defeated E. J. Mirams, 7 and 6; C. W. Mcßride lost to A. G. Shand, 2 and 1; E. J. Wilkinson defeated N. G. Pountney, 6 and 5; N. Banks defeated E. Cavanagh, 4 and 2; R. Muir defeated G. Dodson, 4 and 2.

FOURSOMES. A. H. Nieoll and T. Middleton defeated F. L. Winter and C. F. Bond, 1 up; M. Wells and D. R. Caldwell defeated.lA. G. Shand and E. J. Mirams, 3 and 1; C. W. Mcßride and E. J. Wilkinson defeated E. Cavanagh and G. Dodson, 5 and 4. It is hoped that a team of Auckland players will be able to visit Cambridge soon, and play a combined team of the South Auckland Club. The contest should provide some good games, and it will be interesting to see how the play of the country clubs compares with the City.

Later on in the sqasoir it is expected that a team drawn from Hamilton, Cambridge, Waihi, arid Rotorua clubs will 'be got together to pay a visit tq Auckland and try conclusions with the Auckland and Waitemata clubs. The Cambridge Club have decided to start the ‘"Ladder system,” and have adopted the rules of the Vfyyihi Club in connection with " it. CHRISTCHURCH. A golf match was played at Shirley links on Wednesday for prizes presented by Mrs. Henry Wood. In the senior division Miss Nora Campbell was the Winner, and \in the "junior Mjiss M. Holmes. At Hagley Park links the monthly medal foursomes were won by Mr. W. W. Norton and Miss Norton. On Wednesday afternoon the new pavilion on the New Brighton links was opened by Mr. R. C. Bishop. The New Brighton band played, and afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies. The club, •which has only recently been formed, has already a membership of 80, and its prospects are of the brightest.

WANGANUI. An interesting match was played last Wednesday for Miss Fraser’s Handicap Challenge Bowl, over 14 holes. The results are: Miss Cave, 80, scr, 1; Miss D. Brettargh, 100—16 —84, 2; Miss Coutts, 86 —1—85; Miss Montgomery Moore, 94 —B—B6. Miss Montgomery Moore gave two golf-balls as prizes for the best drive in each class.—Miss A. Cowper won in Class A, and Miss D. Brettargh in Class B. A competition against bogey was held last week. Some good cards were returned. I. (Saunders (scr) and Dr. Earle (handicap 4) tied for first place, each being 2 up. A. H. Lewis (scr) was all square, and G. Saunders (scr) and H. M. Butterworth (scr) were I down.

Amongst the juniors the best card retured was that of B. A. Moore, who was all square. In the play off for the seniors, thie match was won by Imlay Saunders (scr).

POVERTY BAY. The first rounds of the A and B tournaments were played last week. The weather was favourable and conducive to good scoring, and the links and greens were in capital order, thanks to the attention which had been bestowed upon them by the club’s professional, Mr. Stewart. The monthly stroke competition and the monthly Ladies’ Golf Union competition were played simultaneously last week with the following results: — A. PICTON. Nine ladies coinpeted for Miss Seymour’s trophy at Mount Pleii’ant oh Saturday. The first round resulted as follows:—Mrs Riddell, 102—scr—-102; Miss E. Cragg, 132—30—102; Miss Oxley, 134—30—104. Other plaVers were Mrs. Beswiek, Mrs. Luceria, Misses 1* Allen, Wallace, Barr and Harwood". ' Other trophies have been donated by Mrs Riddell and Mrs Lucena, and will be played off later.

STRATFORD. A team from the local dub visited Waitara last week, and were defeated by 4 games to 2. As many of our best

players were unable to go, the team wa« not up to its usual strength. Mr. Fussell, however, redeemed the honour of tne club by making a record score, playing the 18 holes in 89.

HAWERA A match was played between Hawem and Inglewood yesterday, and resulted in a win for the .home team by 9 games to 2. Results were as follows, Haiwera players being mentioned first:—Gillies 4, Gudgeon 0; Kitto v. Thomson 0; Ryan 0, v. Law 1; Treweek 1 v. Howarth 0; Sutton 1, v. Gault 0; Elliott 1, v. OTAGO. The monthly bogey competition was played on Friday, June 9th. Following were the best scores:—Miss D. BLENHEIM. A large number of enthusiasts journeyed to Riverlands on Saturday afternoon. The third round of the men’s medal competition drew ten entries. Mr. G. J. Riddell won with a good score of 76.
