“Now,” said the intrepid explorer, after he had shown the guileless native the inside workings of the brass watch and hail noted his native wonder at the mysteries of the mechanism, “I will let you have one of these for t'wo tusks; then you can be the envy of the whole tribe.” The native gentleman yawned. “I traded a second-hand war-dub for a bushel of those things when I was at the World's Fair in St. Louis,” said he, “and there was not one of them tlrat ran for more than a week. Got any chewin’ about your clothes.”
