June 23. Ou Friday last ‘‘The Scarlet Troubadors” opened a two-night season at the Opera House, and their entertainment was thoroughly enjoyed by the large audience. Amongst'those present I noticed:—Airs H. F. Christie and rhe Misses Christie (2); Mrs J. H. Nixon and the Alisses Nixon (2), Air, Airs and Aliss Ashcroft, Mr and Airs Baggott, Air and Mrs Geo. Currie, Gapt. and Mrs Hume, Air and Airs Allan, Air and Mrs and the Alisses Todd (2), Air A. A. Sheriff, Airs Fullerton Smith, Aliss S. Bevan, Miss Gouid (Auckland), Air Sturge, Air Louis Cohen and others.

Bridge Party. Air and Airs Harold Hesse gave a very enjoyable progressive bridge party at their pretty home, St. John's Hill, on Friday evening. The first prizes were won by Aliss Brettargh and Dr Wall, and the booby' prizes fell to Aliss Kerr and Air David Ritchie. Amongst the guests I noticed: —Air and Airs Hutton, Air and Airs Addison, Dr and Airs Wall, Air and Airs D. Ritchie. Air and Airs Izett, Aliss Kerr. Aliss Ida Stevenson, Airs. Brettargh, Aliss D. The Wanganui Nursing League held a street collection on Saturday in aid of the "District Nurses” fund, and resulted in over £3(36 being collected or over £lOO in excess of last year’s total, which is extremely gratifying. The public responded most liberally to the requests of the lady collectors, who were stationed at different points about the town. The day fortunately was fine though very cold, and one could not but help admire the valiant way in which the ladies stuck to their posts from early morn till late in the evening. On the Links.

At the Belmont links on Wednesday the Wanganui Ladies Goff Club played a stake match for Miss Frazer’s bowl, and Miss Cave was the winner. A driving competition for a prize presented by Mias Alontgomery-Moore, was won by

Pero«*aL Mrs. J. G. Wilson and Mr*. J. and N. Wilson, of Hulls, are on a visit to Wanganui. Mr. Harry Hayley, of Wanganui, wha has been visiting Auckland, returned home this week. Mr. and Mrs. Baker, of Wanganui, who have been spending a few weeks at New Plymouth, have rewrnod to their home«.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Asch, of Waitotara, Who have been on a short visit to Wanganui. returned home this week. Mr. and Mrs. Barnett, accompanied by the Misses Russell, of Wanganui, left by the lonic last week on a visit to the Old Country. Itis Honor Mr. Justice Sim. who is an old Wanginuite. was entertained at a dinner on Monday evening by the members of the local bar.
