About I O'clock on the morning of June 12 one of the biggest fires experienced in Wellington for a considerable time broke out in the building of the Government railway maintenance electrical department. A few minutes after the alarm had been given the whole building was in flames, and the fire brigade concentrated their main efforts on saving adjoining premises. The electrical department had in hand all the appliances for decorations in connection with the Coronation.
