NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD.

LONDON. April 28. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Wood, of Christ church, and Mr. Leslie H. Wood arrived in London a few days ago after a pleasant trip by the P. and O. India. They are on a health and pleasure trip, anl the duration of their visit will depend on the amount of enjoyment they can get out of travelling as the spirit moves them, and whether the climate of Europe agrees with their health. They anticipate being- in these latitudes for about 18 months, aud may journey back to New Zealand by way of Canada anl the Unital States. Mr. \V. J. Geddi-s, managing editor of the Napier "Telegraph." anl Mr. Wm. Blomfield. his partner on the Auckland “Observer," arrived in Ijondon last Tuesday via Ostend. They are on a nine months’ holiday trip to the Old World. They travelled as far as the Mediterranean on the P. and O. liner Mantua, and for the past few weeks have been travelling on the Continent, visiting the Riviera. Italy, Vienna, Paris, and other places of interest. Mr. Blomfield had an embarrassing experience at Nice, though an amusing one to look back on. He went out for a stroll one fine morning, and presently received a rule shock by finding himself under arrest. It seems he had unwittingly wandered into a fort. The soldiers took him before an officer, who talked to him at great length in French. But neither officer nor prisoner could understand each other. So Mr. Blomfield was passed on to another officer, with a like result. Finally the NewZealander was marched out of the fort and released, the military being apparently satisfied that he was not a spy. He was told afterwards that he was lucky not to have been locked up for trespassing on -he forbidden ground of the fort. Mr. arid Mrs. A. A. Martin, of Auckland. arrived in London a few days ago, having, en route, spent a couple of months on the Continent. After leaving the P. and 0. Mantua at Marseilles they visited the chief tourist resorts on the French -Riviera, and thence went to Genoa. Rome. Naples, and Florence; Later Mr. and Mrs. Martin did the Swiss Lakes and then repairei to Paris. They intend to stay in London until the Coronation is a thing of the past, and will then probably make a trip to Norway, after which they propose to make an extended motoring tour through the United Kingdom. Their return to New Zealand will take place about the end of the vear. - - -
