June 2. A Dance. An impromptu dance was given by Mrs Flower cn ’ r h-.:rsday evening, at her house at Cl. .. ,’s College Grammar School. The guests included the Misses Prins (2), Wood, Anderson, Flower (Kaikoura), Denniston. Murray, Von Dadelzen (Wellington). Jameson, Knight, Merton (3), Dobson, Mcares, and Dobson, Messrs Denniston, Thomas, Meares, Tanks, Wood, Bruges, Ollivier, Harris, Boys, Chrystall, and Williams. Morning Tea. A morning tea was given on Friday by Mrs A. M. Olliviej- at her residence in Holly-road, in honour of Miss Von Dadelzen (Wellington), who has been staying with her. Those present were: Mesdames F. Graham. Bennett, Bloxom, Merton, Thomson, Baiey. Cnnnington, Fairhurst, Thomson. Bailey ‘'-mnington. Fairhurst, A. and G. Thomson. Miss Ollivier and some of the. guests played and sang, and a most enjoyable morning was spent. Musical Evening. A musical evening was given on Friday by Mrs H. H. Loughnan at Avonside, The performers were: Mrs Wilding (piano). Miss Mclntyre (violin), Mr H. H. Loughnan (’cello), and songs were sung by Mrs Loughnan, Mr B. B. Wood, and Dr. O'Brien. Others present were: Judge and Mrs Denniston, Mrs Turton (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs W. Wood, Miss Wood. Miss Nancarrow. Mr and Mrs Wynks. Miss Symes, and Miss Wynks, Mr Hazelton (Ireland), Mr Wilding, and Mr Nancarrow. Bridge. A bridge party was given by -'-is T. Condell on Monday evening. The players were: Mrs M. Campbell, Mrs Thomas, Mrs Ford, Miss Symes, Mrs Donald, Mrs Nancarrow. and Miss Cuthbert. Public Amusements. Quite a number of excellent concerts have been given lately, including those of the Royal Hawaiians at The King’s Theatre, a song and piano recital last Tuesday evening by Mrs Gower-Burns (soprano). Mrs Mangos (pianiste), and Mr H. Nevill-Smith (baritone). Mr Sydney Williamson also gave a most enjoyable song recital.
Personal. Mrs Gerald Westenra (Christchurch) is staying with friends in South Canterbury. Mrs and Miss Sanders have returned to Christchurch from Timaru. Miss A. Thomson (Geraldine) is the guest of Mrs Reeves, Moutreal-street. Mrs Turton (Dunedin) is staying with Mrs Denniston, Rolleston-avenue. Miss Seed (Wellington) is spending a short time in Christchurch. Miss Von Dadelsen has returned to Wellington. Mrs Blundell (Wellington) is in Christchurch. Miss G. Tripp (Woodbury) is staying at The Deanery (Christchurch). Mrs George Gould and family are spending the holidays at Sumner. Miss Sutton (Napier) is the guest of Mrs W. D. Stuart ( Riccarton). Mr and Mrs Selig and family left Christchurch yesterday (Thursday) for a visit to Sydney. Mesdames Wilson and Ronalds have returned to Christchurch from a lengthened visit to Auckland. Misses Boyle and Pyne (Christchurch)’ have returned from Wellington. The Rev. C. Moreland and Mrs Moreland (Christchurch) have returned from their trip to Rotorua.
