Mr. Kensington (Under-Secretary fof Lands) returned to Wellington from a visit of inspection to the Hauraki Plains drainage works, particularlv the new works latelv initiated to or-en im a large area adjoining rhe Whakahora Block, between that block and the junction ot Waitoa and Piako rivers. This Mock, he reports, is of exceptionally good <rn‘ality. and will anir.lv repay expenditure. He hopes to be able to open a considerable portion of this Wo k for selection ia areas of one hundred acres early in the ensuing summer. Mr. Kensington also visited and in-ioect.-d a bl«ek of excellent quality .at Waihaha, which will be opened next autumn. Thorough inspection was mada Of the whole o' the other drainage works, and thev were found to he in a most satisfactory condition. The engineer (Mr. .T. B.
