May 3. A Concert. Our musical people had a great treat in the Opera House on Monday, listening to M. Eugene Ossipoff and his concert party. Miss Renee Lees was a charming accompanist, and looked sweet in her shell-pink ninon gown. Miss Edmonds was gowned in a. pale blue robe with touches of a darker shade. - • The Rink. Roller skating has caught on wonderfully already this season, even though the weather is milder than is usual at this time of the year. Flower Show. ' The Chrysanthemum Show was opened on Thursday, and exceeded expectations, comparing favourably with any of our previous shows. The entries were a little below the average on account of the long drought. The champion bloom was shown by Mr James Gibson, who was the most successful exhibitor. Some of those present were: Mrs Fullerton-Smith, Mrs Hpneyman. Mrs Bryce, Mrs E. Smith, Mrs Sladden, Mrs Stromborn, Miss Stedman. The prize for the prettiest table was won by Miss Nutt and Miss Knigge. Personal. Mrs Jack Broad is spending a week in Wellington, where she has gone to meet her mother. Mrs Hatherley has returned from Wanganui. Mrs Crawford and Miss Burbury spent a few days in Feilding last week. Mrs Powell and Miss Tudor (Manganoho) paid us a short visit this week. Mrs E. Smith had a small afternoon tea on Wednesday. Her guests included Mrs Powell, Mrs Openshaw, Mrs Jim Simpson, and Miss Tudor. Miss Hardy has gone for a visit to Auckland. Mr and Mrs Wilkie and-Master Campbell Wilkie left yesterday' for -Rotorua. Miss Kennedy has gone to-Wellington for the holidays. ■ . _ MARGARET.
