May 5. Obituary. This hag been a very sad week to many well-known residents of this town and district. On Tuesday Mr. Basil Fos-ter-Pratt, the sou of Mr. and Mrs. Fos-ter-Pratt, died. Up till last Thursday he was a vigorous young man, when he was taken suddenly ill, and operated upon almost immediately for appendicitis, but despite all that skill and cars could do, he died at 8 o’clock on Tuesday morning. Mr. and Airs. Foster-Pratt have the sympathy of all in their great sorrow.
On the afternoon of the same day Air. Edward Riddiford, of the Hutt, died also. He had been lying here severely ill for some time, but had been decidedly better for a few days previously. Report says that the shock of Mr. Basil Pratt’s death brought about an attack of heart failure.
wblch .proved fatal. Mr., Riddiford, was Mr. Foster-Pratt's uncle' therefore greatuncle of the late Mr. Basil Fouter Pratt. Personal. Miss Dorothy Waldegrave has gone to Wellington for a fortnight. Her mother, Mrs. C. E. Waldegrave, is expected to. arrive from England in the lonic on the 16th. inst. Mrs. Armstrong (England) is the guest of Mrs. E. J. Armstrong, Broad-street. Mr. G. W. Harden had a small ehildren's party on Tuesday afternoon in honour of her daughter Phyllis' birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Louisson have returned from a short visit to Christchurch. VIOLET.
