SEDDON.

April 19 th. An Important Event. The opening of the Seddon-Ward section of the South Island, Railway was celebrated last Saturday at Flaxbourne in the presence of a large number of people. The train from Blenheim and Seddon was packed, while the Flaxbourne settlers gathered in full force. After short speeches by the Minister, Mr R. McCallum, and Mr Duncan, M.P., the train, guided by the Hon. Mr McKenzie, steamed into the station and severed the ribbon held by Mesdames Duncan, McKenzie, O’Dwyer and Armstrong. Some of the ladies present were Mrs Duncan, striped navy blue costume, largo hat; Mrs McKenzie, black cloth costume, faced with white satin, black velvet toque, silver trimmings and grey osprey; Mrs McCallum, violet costume braided with black, green hat trimmed shaded silk; Mrs C. Hurry, white serge skirt, "white knitted coat, large white hat, trimmed wreath flowers; Mrs Ward, tailor made costume, blue toque; Misses Rutherford (2) navy tailor made cos, tumes, white straw hats, large black silk bows; Messrs R. and A. McCallum, Vavasour, R. Boulter, A. Bell, Stace, Rolo, Sharp, Armstrong, Eccells, Corrigan, Hall, Nevill, etc. Personal. Mr and Mrs Duncan Rutherford are the guests of Mrs Rutherford (Kikerangi). Mr and Mrs F. Willis (Grassmere) have returned home. Mr and Mrs Stevenson Smith (Blenheim), are the guests of Mrs Willis, Grassmere. Miss Zoe Redwood is visiting Ugbrooke.
