By the death of Baron Albert von Rothschild, which occurred at the age of 66, on the 11 th February, at Vienna, after an apopleptic seizure, the chess world generally has suffered a heavy loss. Himself an ardent and strong player, Baron Rothschild was ever ready with influence and purse to further the cause of vheas. He had a strong leaning to imaginative play, and sought to foster it by the series of special brilliancy poizes with which he endowed every master’s tournament of recent years. The following fine game is a specimen of his skill: — “QUEEN’S GAMBIT DECLINED.” White. Blaek. L. Weinbrenner. Baron Rothschild 1. P—Q4 P-Q5 2. P—QB4 P—K3 3. PxP Pxl’ 4. Kt—Qß3 Kt—Kß3 5.
