NELSON.

April 11. Harmonic Society's Concert. A very successful concert was given in Hie School of Music by the Nelson. Harmonic Society. A very enjoyable feature of the programme was the fine singing of “Harold,” one of Loewe’s ballads, by Mr. Harry Kidson, who was accompanied by Mrs. Kidson. The orchestra played the Hungarian March (Liszt), and a suite for a string orchestra by Felix Borowski. Mendelssohn’s “Athalie” was also given, the solos being taken by Misses Armstrong. Rive, and Richards. The Rev. W. S.

Lucas was the reader. The pianists was Mias Judson and Miss Flett, the leader of the orchestra. Among others present were:—Mrs. Ratehell, Mra. Evans, Mrs. J. P. Hayes. Miss Richmond, Miss C. Y. Fell, Mra. and Miss Sclanders. Mrs. and Miss Gibbs, Miss Lorimer, Mrs. Harrison. Miss Kirton, Mrs. Cecil King, Mrs. W. Johnston. Misses Ledger, Miss Bunny, Mrs. Green.

Bridge Party. Mr. and Mrs. Noel Adams entertained a number of guests at “Melrose” to meet General and Mrs. Godley. The hostess was very becomingly gowned in white satin duchesse with overdress of real lace. Some of those present were: — Mr. Percy Adams, General and Mrs. Godley. Captain Spencer Smith (Wellington), Dr. and Mrs. S. Gibbs. Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Burnes, Mr. Macquarie, Mr. and Mrs. Robison, Miss G. Clark, Miss Leggatt, Mrs. Harris, and Miss Ethel Ledger.

The Skating Season. Devotees of roller skating were present in large numbers at the opening of the Olympia rink. The Mayor of Nelson declared the season open, and the excellent floor was soon filled with skaters. A very good band added to the general enjoyment. Some of those present were:—Mrs. and Miss Coote, Mr. and Mrs. J. Glasgow, Mrs. H. Wright. Misses Hamilton, Mrs. and Miss Booth, Miss Haggitt (Dunedin). Miss Coster, Misses Hair. Misses Clark. Mr. IL Clark, Mr. T. IToulker, Mr. and Mrs. 11. Cock, Miss G. Harley, Mr. B. Bunny. • Personal. General and Mrs. Godley have left Nelson-for the West Coast overland. Sir George Clifford is paying a short visit to Nelson. Mr. S. P. Stevens (Christchurch) formerly of Nelson, is visiting friends here. Miss May Newman (Wellington) is visiting here. Mr. and Mrs. Burnes have gone to Mt. Cooke. DOLCE.
