March 24. Tennis Party. A small tennis party was given by Mrs Arthur Rhodes at “Te Koraha,” Merivale, on Saturday afternoon, when an American tournament was played. Those taking part in it were: Miss Pyne, Miss Agnes Humphreys, Miss D. Bowden, Miss Merton, Miss Ogle, Miss H. Gould, Messrs Macdonald, Anderson, Fell, Gould, Godby, and Dr. Nedwill. The winners were Miss Merton and Mr Fell. Morning Tea. A morning tea was given on Saturday by Mrs. Walter Stringer at her residence, Rolleston-avenue, as a farewell to Mrs Arthur Rhodes, who is leaving on a lengthy visit to England. Amongst those present were: Mrs Denniston, Miss Thurston, Mis Appleby, Mrs Blunt, Mrs Carey-Hill, Mrs Deans, Mrs Moreland, Mrs Stevenson, and Mrs Louisson. A Farewell Tea. At the Cadena Tea Rooms a farewell tea was given to Nurse Kitto (who has left the Christchurch Hospital to take up the duties of matron at the Greymouth Hospital) by the trained nurses of Christchurch, who presented Miss Kitto with a silver teapot as a token of the esteem whieh they all felt towards her, and as a mark of their affection. A very pleasant afternoon was spent, and a charming little speech was ftadfe by Miss Ewart when she made the presentation. Tennis and Croquet. A small tennis and croquet party was given by Mrs Holmes at “Huntley” on Saturday afternoon. The hostess was ably assisted by her daughters in entertaining her guests. Mrs Buchanan (Nelson) is the guest of Mrs Denniston, Rolleston-avenue. Mrs J. Douglas (Waikare) is staying with Miss Humphreys (Fendalton). Mrs Mostyn-Jones, who arrived from the North Island on Saturday, is the guest of Mrs Boyle (Riccarton). Miss Williams (Timaru) is staying with Mrs Palmer at “Woodford,” Papa-nui-road. Mr and Mrs J. C. N. Grigg and the Misses Grigg (Longbeach) have left Christchurch for England. Mrs Wardrop left Christchurch for Wellington last week. Mr and Mrs R. Heaton Rhodes (Christchurch) returned from Australia on Wednesday, and left again on Friday for England, accompanied by Mrs Barclay. Mrs and Miss Selig (Christchurch)’ . have returned, from a visit to Timaru. Miss Cox (Christchurch) is the guest o'f Mrs Barker, “Marshlands” (Timaru). Miss Phillips (The Point) left Christchurch yesterday to join the Corinthic for London. Miss Ware (Auckland), who has been staying with friends in Christchurch, left yesterday to join the Corinthic. Miss Barker (Woodbury) is the guest of Mrs Boyle (Riccarton). Miss Raine (Timaru) has been spending a few days in Christchurch. Miss Nancarrow, who has been spending some time in the country, has returned to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Donald McLean (Mt. Hutt) are in Christchurch. Mrs John Williams (Geraldine) is in
