PALMERSTON NORTH.

January 20. Tennis. At last interest in tennis has awakened. The local tournament has fallen through from want of support, but a series of matches with other clubs is being arranged, the first of which is to be played to-day at Feilding. Airs Pickett, the Alisses Porter, Wilson, For saith, Watson, Airs Cecil Adams, and Messrs Stedman, Collins, Smith. Wither, Spencer, Winton, Gibbons, and R. Reid are representing Palmerston. On Afonday a team conies from Taihape to play a match with a local team. The annual tournament is fixed for the 17th and IHth of February. Some Street Toilettes. We are still very quiet here, so many are still away at the different seaside resorts. A few pretty toilettes I have noticed lately in the street were: Mrs O’Brien, wearing * green linen eoat and

Skirt, and burnt straw hat with blacle silk and dull pink Howers; Miss Mon-* O’Brien, pale brown linen Russian costume, prettily braided in same shade, large hat with black silk bows; Mrs Levein, fawn linen Russian coat and skirt, hat with pink roses; Mrs Pickett, white muslin coat and skirt, white liat with mauve and pink flowers; Miss Porter, cream serge coat and skirt, with white silk collar and cuffs, large black hat with crimson flowers; Mrs Louissen, a dainty white frock, and pink straw hat witli black silk loops; Mrs Harden, pink linen coat and skirt, black hat with black feathers. Personal. Mrs Eliot and children have returned from Plimmerton. Mr and Mrs Bendall and children have gone to Plimmerton for three weeks. Mrs Bell has gone to Levin.
