December 30. Morning Tea. A jolly little morning' tea was given on Saturday for the Misses Mason, who are leaving for a visit to England. The Misses Brettargh were the hostesses. Amongst those present were: Miss Spenser, Miss Mason, Miss'J. Mason, Miss Brettargh. Miss D. Brettargh, Miss Stevenson, Miss G. Krull, Miss Thompson (Sydney) Miss W. Anderson. Croquet. There were a fair number at the croquet lawns on Saturday afternoon. Tea was provided by Mrs. Paterson and Mrs. Gill-Carey. Amongst those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Gordon, Mr. and Mrs. -Sarjeant, Mrs. Anderson, Miss Anderson, Mrs. John Stevenson, Mrs. Lomax, Mrs. Innes, Miss Browne, and others. A Successful Concert. The Orchestral Society gave a very successful concert in the Opera House. There was a large and appreciative audience. Amongst those I noticed were: Miss Watson (England), in a black silk robe with yoke of black transparent lace; Mrs. W. Atkinson, black silk gown with sleeves and vest of black figured transparent lace; Miss Heaps, white muslin frock with lace and insertion; Airs. John Stevenson wore a beautiful robe of crimson silk with black chiffon overskirt elaborately embroidered in silk; Miss Stevenson, pretty white eharmeuse gown with chiffon and touch silver, pale blue chiffon shoulder scarf; Mrs. 11. Sarjeant wore a cream ninon robe with gold thread embroidery; Miss Moore, white muslin frock with bands of insertion and lace, ami white satin sash with ornamental ends; Miss Price, white charnieuse robe, made with corselet skirt and silver embroidery; Mrs. Price, pale heliotrope silk with the corsage embroidered in silk cord in the same tones; Mrs. Clampett, pretty pale green charmeuse with silk embroidery on her corsage; Mrs. Gifford Marshall wore a black silk crystalline with chiffon and cream opera coat; Miss D. Marshall, pale blue ninon froek; Mrs. Brettargh, black silk gown with cream net on her corsage, arid chiffon shoulder scarf; Miss Brettargh, pale blue ninon with chiffon; Mrs. J. Anderson wore a black silk robe with lace; Aliss'W. Anderson, white silk; Mrs. J. C. Greenwood, becoming evening gown with' cream net and lace; Mrs. Hughes- Johnston, pale grey crepe de chine frock with silver- sequins on her corsage and skirt; Mrs. T. Hatherley, cream silk with lace; Mrs. Leslie Peck, Mrs. Gordon Williams (Te Ante), Mrs. A. O. Williams, Miss Allen (Taihape) ; Mrs. Palmer, cream silk blouse with lace and insertion, black silk skirt; Mrs. H. Wilson, black crystalline gown with tiny vest of cream chiffon on her corsage; Miss Wilfonl. black charnieuse with black jet edging her decolletage; Miss Ilawken. pale pink charnieuse, beautiful chiffon searf with silk butterflies; Airs. Innis. black silk with cream lace berthe; Aliss D. Innis, white silk and laee; Airs. Aleldrum, white ninon robe with chiffon: Airs. Ramsay wore a winecoloured silk robe; Airs. A. Sheriff, white silk; Aliss Skeet, white ninon gown with chiffon. "Water Picnic. A very jolly water picnic was given i>y Air. Perston and Air. B. Anderson. Amongst those present were: Alisses Krull, Thompson (Australia), Spencer, Anderson, Brettargh (2), Stevenson, Christie, Barley, Alessrs. Strouts, Stevenson, Brettargh, Chambmlain, Anderson, Perston, and others. The Holidays. The weather was fortunately line for the holidays, although there were slight showers on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday were both kept as holidays, and there were very large numbers at Castlecliff ami on the up-river steamers both days. Airs. AA - . Anderson gave a very enjoyable picnic on Aloiiday, and a large number went up the river to see the sculling match between Webb and Pearce. It came as a surprise the latter winning so easily, as we had hoped the local champion would be victorious. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Batteley, of Taihape, have been staying in Wanganui recently. The Rev. J. K. ami Mrs. Dove, of Wanganui, are spending the holidays at Mt. Cook. Miss Allen, of Raugitikei, is staying

in Wanganui with Mr. and Mrs. J. Al len.

Air. and Mrs. W. Atkinson, of Wanganui, are staying in Canterbury. Mrs. Oldham, of Wanganui, is staying in Canterbury with relations.

Air. Neame, of Wanganui, is spending his holiday in the North.

Miss Watson, of England, is staying in Canterbury. Mr. and Mrs. Gifford Marshall and Miss Marshall, of Wanganui, left this week for Rotorua. Mr. Firth, of England, has been staying in Wanganui with Mr. and Mrs. Gifford Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. Medhurst, of Wanganui, are staying in Auckland with Mr. and Mrs. Gillfillan. Mr. and Mrs. S. Gordon and Miss Gresson, of Wanganui, left this week for a visit to friends and relations in Canterbury. Air. and Mrs. P. Lewis, of Wanganui, are staying in Auckland for the holiday season. Air. and Mrs. A. Izard, of Wanganui, are staying in Christchurch with relations. HULA.
