NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD.

LONDON, Novem'ber 11. Mr. John Graham Gow, Trade Commissioner for New Zealand, who has been representing the Dominion at the exhibition at Buenos Ayres during the last five months, arrived in London on Monday on his way to New York, where he intends inquiring into certain conditions of trade on behalf of the New' Zealand Government. turns to New Zealand by the P. and O. Mooltan. Mr. Ross, whikst in England, has been actively engaged in furthering the interests of the Mok>ney-Rx*<s telephone transmitter, which gave such excellent results in New Zealand. Mr. Roes has had some splendid trials, but has had great difficulty in getting some of his work, notably in connection with the carbon parts, done in England. He has had to place orders on the Continent for some of this work. Some very high opinions have been expressed as to the capabilities of the new telephone, and several States are withholding orders on the advice of their consulting engineer in England until the New Zealand invention is on the market. Mr. Ross intends to return at an early date to England. Recent callers at the New Z-aluni Government offices: —Misses E. and A. King (Auckland), Harold A. Armstrong (Wellington), Walter S. Joynt. late Registrar of the University of New Zealand, who arrived recently by the Orient steamer Orvieto, has come to take over the agency of the University of New Zealand in London, which was held for many years by the late Mr. H. W. Eve. Mr. Joynt lias already entered on the duties of the office. The Royal Humane Society has sent to the Registrar of St, Ives. Cornwall, an honorary testimonial, inscribed on parchment. to be presented to Pan! Paora Chamberlain, the adopted son of Mr. J. Chamberlain, of New Zealand and St. Ives. The testimonial is awarded in recognition of Pani’s gallantry in having on August 18 last gone to the rescue of a visitor at St. Ives, who was in imminent danger of drowning in the sea, and whose life he saved. "We all feel extremely gratified.” writes Mr. Chamberlain, “at the recognition of the Royal Humane Society of my boy’s brave act.”
