A lady feH into a river. A boy oa the bank dived in and succeeded in rescuing her. The lady’s husband was effusive in his thanks, and presented the boy with—five shillings! The bystanders showed their astonishment at his niggard! mess. “Oh, don’t blame the gentleman,” said the boy. “Maybe, if I hadn’t saved her he’d have made it a fiver!”
