LEADERS OF COMMERCE IN THE DOMINION.

Mr. Peter Virtue, manager and secretary of-the Northern Roller Milling Company, Ltd., was born at Maryborough, Victoria. He commenced his business career at Hokitika, in the firm of James Chesney and Co., afterwards going to Timarn. ’ Later on Mr.-JMer Virtue joined the staff of tlhe Bank of New Zealand, being employed in various important and responsible charges. For sixteen years he was manager of the bank'strading concerns, leaving in 1898 to take up iiis present position. The present company. now the largest milling concern in the Dominion, purchased from the Bank of New Zealand Estate Co., about eleven years ago, the two well-known mills in Auckland, and have since built a large ferro-concrete granary adjoining, the Quay-street mill.

Mr. Hopeful Gibbons is a well-known business man of Wanganui. He was born at Launceston. Tasmania, in 1856, ami came to Dunedin in 1862. He Jias taken an active Interest in publie affairs, and was secretary and organiser of the Coronation festivities, and the visit of the Imperial Troops to Wanganui. Previous to residing in Wanganui. Mr. Gibbons held various public positions in Paten. He is Managing director of tire Wanganui Brewery Co., Ltd.. Chairman of Directors of the A. and L. ’Seifer Flaxmilling Co., Makerua, and of J. B. Clarkson and Co., and a director in the firm of Scott, Niven and Co., Doth firms of Palmerston North. Mr. Gibbons also has large interests in timber and land, and is a shareholder In a number of local companies.
