A COMFORTABLE CLUB FOR THREEPENCE PER WEEK.

The employees of the Auckland Electric Tramways Coy. have established a comfortable and commodious club in the city, at which the men, during their “off-shift,” can spend their leisuie time. Over 300 men belong to the Club now, and before long, all the employees, to the number of about 500. will become voluntary members. They pay an entrance fee of 2/6, and weekly contributions of 3d, out of which all expenses are paid. The institution includes a billiard room. treading and writing room, a loom for games, and a large committee room. In the summer, fishing excursions are promoted, to say nothing of the annual picnic, always held on Good Friday, the tramway man’s “off-day.” During the winter months, social evenings are held at the Club. At the Epsom depot, the Company has provided a miniature rifle range for the use of the men. Mr Walklate, the manager of the Company, is the president of the Club, and takes a great interest in its advancement and welfare.
