October 25. The Bowling Season. On Thursday afternoon the bowling green on Kaiti was opened, fine weather prevailing and a large attendance in eonsequence. The greens are in capital order, and the bright dresses of the many ladies present gave quite an en fete air io the scene. Gisborne Shakespeare Clnb. The Gisborne Shakespeare Club gave its opening entertainment in Holy Trinity schoolroom on Thursday evening last, the schoolroom being taxed to its utmost to accommodate the enthusiastic audience. After a short speech by the president, Mr. A. F. Kennedy, “As You Like It” was produced, the east being: Mrs. Hooper, Audrey; Miss H. Hogg, Rosalind; Mrs. Brownlee, Celia; Mr. Webb, Adam; Mr. Darton, Jacques, Corim, and William; Mr. Burnard, Orlando; Mr. A. F. Kennedy, Touchstone; Mr. Rowley, Exiled Duke; Mr. Nicholl, Duke Frederick; Mr. Schierning, First I. Mr. Bloore, Oliver; Mr. Barlow, Charles. Songs were contributed during the evening by Mr. and Mrs. Lamont Gurr, the accompanists being Mesdames Gurr and Kennedy and Miss Crawford. Personal. The Mayor of Gisborne (Mr. W. D. Xysnar) and family, accompanied by Mr. J. C. Field, are expected to leave London this week, travelling by the s.s. Morea, on their return to Gisborne. Miss Sievwright (Gisborne) has been appointed librarian of the children's section of the public library. Dr. Collins left on Sunday for Tolago Bay. Mrs. Stevenson returned from Christchurch on Saturday. Miss Reynolds, who has been visiting friends in Hawke’s Bay, returned on Saturday. Misses Sherratt and Ormond returned on Saturday from a visit to Hastings. . Messrs. C. A. Fenwick, Reynolds, R. Sherratt, and W. Anderson, returned from the Hastings show on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. T. Sherratt, who have been staying with relations in Hawke’s Bay, returned on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Shields (Hastings) arrived in Gisborne on Saturday. Archdeacon Williams, Mrs. and Miss Williams left on Wednesday for Napier, Archdeacon Williams to attend Synod. Rev. F. W. Chatterton, Rev. Dawson Thomas, Rev. Mr. James, and Mrs. James left on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. de Lawtour, and Colonel and Mrs. Winter also left on Wednesday to attend the meeting of
Svnod in Napier.
