AN AUSTRALIAN CARNATION VOTE.

(From the “Journal of Horticulture.) FINAL RESULTS. We publish herewith the final results of our “Carnation Vote.” It must be remembered that in all votes as to the twelve best of any class of plant the individual can only vote according to bis experience, and that is limited to the varieties he happens to be growing, so that the result cannot be taken to be the actual “Best Twelve.” Again, new varieties not yet extensively grown will be certain to displace some of those varieties at present so popular. For instance, the varieties Nabob and Mrs Lipscombe are new, and likely to take a much higher position in twelve months’ time. In the Decorative Section, it will be noticed that such excellent varieties aS Mrs Davey, Madie Bury, Plumridge, Peach Blossom, May Wentworth, etc., have been ignored because they are all bad bursters, yet they are indispensable for decoration.' The vote in the Decorative Section has been in the main correctly recorded, as it represents those varieties with good calyces, or, if the term may be used, “Decorative Show Perpetuals,” the bursters having been relegated to a “Garden” section by the majority of earnation growers. In fact, the “Show Perpetual” class is really an “Australian" section, and the Decorative an “American’’ standard of perpetuals. A large number of varieties in each class have only secured one vote, and are, therefore, not in tin' running. SHOW PERPETUALS. Name. V otes. 1. Phyllis Magno 22 2. T. .McGann 19 3. Lola 19 4.
