The dirigible balloon ordered on behalf of the “Morning Post” (National Airship Fund has been built by MM. Paul and Pierre Lebaudy, the famous French airship constructors, at their works at La Villette and Moisson, to the plans of their engineer. M. Juillot. The airship has been constructed to meet the requirements of the British Army, to whom it will be presented when it has passed its tests. On September 14 last, above the plain of Moisson, in Normandy, the big dirigible, with a crew of six, made her first trial, with every success. She carried 1850lbs of ballast, and was manoeuvred in midair for half-an-hour, at an altitude of 500 to 600 feet. The envelope is 337ft 10in long, and the whole is driven by two 4-cylinder motors of 135 horse-power each. The British National Airship Fund was opened by the “Morning Post” last year, when an appeal was made for £20,000. Up to date, £12,000 has been subscribed. The photos show the airship in flight and under cover.
