NEW PLYMOUTH.

October 7. Bridge. Before Mrs. Macklow’s return Lome to Epsom. Auckland, several small but extremely pleasant functions were given to her by her fiends. Mrs. Hall entertained her, last Monday evening, at a bridge party, and most enjoyable it was. too. The prizes were won by Mrs. A. D. Gray (first), and Mrs. S. Teed (second). Mrs. Hall was robed in a black silk skirt, pretty cream silk and lace blouse; Mrs. Macklow wore a charming cream and pink floral taffetas, with decolletage and sleeves of cream lace. Others present were: — Mrs. Avery, Mrs. Cunningham, Mrs. S. Teed, Mrs. A. D. Gray, Mrs. Paul, Miss Avery. Mrs. E. Gilmore, Miss B; Rennell, Mrs. S. Rennell. d.ast Tuesday, Mrs. A. D. Gray entertained Mrs. Maeklow at an afternoon tea. The final function took the form or a bridge ■ party, and was given by Mrs. John Avery, in Devon-s-tiect. There were four tables, and the prizes were won by Miss Cunningham (first), and Mrs. S. Teed (second). The supper-table was charmingly decorated with yellow broom and purple flags. Mrs. Avery received her guests in a brown chiffon taffetas, cream lace vest; Miss Avery, pale pink taffetas, cream lace berthe, braided with moss-green velvet ribbon; Mrs. .Maeklow, very rich, black silk, prettily trimmed with embossed lace over white silk, yoke and sleeves lightly touched with pale blue silk. Others present were: Miss A. Hampton, Miss Cunningham, Mrs. Percy Webster, Miss Kirton. Mrs. Foote, Mrs. S. Rennell, Miss Hall, Mrs. Hall. Mrs. A. D. Gray, Mrs. Paul, Mrs. E. Gilmore. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Alfred MeKellar, of Christchurch, who have been visiting their relatives in New Plymouth, have gone on to Auckland before their return home.

Webster (New Plymouth) is on a visit to Mrs. R. Lusk, Parnell, Auckland. Misses D. and G. Skinner (New Plymouth) are visiting their sister, Mrs. Donald Malcolm, of Gisborne. The Rev. Cruiekshank bade farewell to Taranaki last week, having left for Wellington, where he took part in the Anglican Mission. In November he takes up his duties in Whangarei, when Mr. Brocklehurst leaves for Hastings. Rev. Mr. J. Wilkinson has returned to New Plymouth from Wellington, where he went to assist in the Anglican Mission. Mrs. P. B. Fitzherbert, who has been for some months, visiting her mother, Mrs. A. C. Fookes, New Plymouth, left last week for her home in Dannevirke. Mr. S. Hansan, of the Motorua Freezing Works staff, has been transferred to Auckland. Rev. Mr. and Mrs. Allanson, of Omata, have gone for a year’s trip to Tasmania. Miss E. Hoskin, who has been on a visit to Nelson, has returned to New Plymouth. Miss Ruth Baker (New Plymouth) has gone to live at Stratford. Miss Vera Brett has returned to Auckland.
