Red Funnel Fleet.
During the statement mi the question of oversea mail services in the House last week, the Postmaster General (Sir Joseph Ward) said lie had just received a telegram from the general manager of the I nion Steamship Company stating that the company had contracted for a 16-knot passenger steamer to be built. The new vessel would he 430 ft by 55ft 6'n, and would be larger and faster than the Mar.una. The contract time was August 1 next year, and the vessel should be in service 12 months from non. Her cost would be .£200,009, delivered in the Dominion.
