Augu-t 2(5. The Golf Championship. Golf has been the all-absorbing amusement and interest of the week. Taken as a whole, this year’s championship meeting has been a successful and enjoyable gathering, which was brought to a conclusion on Wednesday evening, when the captain ami members of the ( hristchurch Ladies’ Golf Club gave an “At Home” in the Art Gallery. The guests included the visiting golfers, ami several of the members of the Christchurch Golf Club. ladies ami gentlemen. Trophies were presented to the successful competiAlr Thomas, in his speech, expressed the hope that as New' Zealanders have won the tennis and sculling championships of the world, he hoped a New Zealand lady would also gain the Ladies’ Golf Champion-hip of the world. Mr. and Mrs. Algar Williams (Wellington) are 'the guests of Mrs. Boyle at Riccarton. Miss Sinclair-Thomson (Dunedin) and Airs Hewland (Leeston) are staying with Airs. George Rhodes ‘"Elmwood,” Papa-nui-road. Aliss Sybil Abraham (Palmerston) was the guest of Airs. Wilding, ‘"Opawa,” during the Golf Championship Aleeting. Aliss F. Rattray (Dunedin) was staying with Airs. J. D. Hall, “Aliddleton.” Airs. Stead (Christchurch) and Airs. Wilfred Stead (Hawke’s Bay) are staying at Sumner for a few weeks. Aliss Hoadley (Napier) is staying with Airs. Gerald Stead at Brackenfield. Air. and Airs. A. Stedman (Napier) have come to settle in Christchurch. Airs. Savill (Waddington) and Airs. Bethel (Pahau Pastures) are spending a few days in Christchurch. Air. and Airs. F. Waymouth (Fendalton) intend shortly to leave for a visit to England.
