The British football team playing under Northern Union rules opened their New Zealand tour at Victoria Park on Wednesday, when they met a Maori team captained by Asher. The weather was wet and the ground sloppy, which appeared to suit the visitors 'better than the natives. The latter were hopelessly outclassed and beaten by 29 points to nil. At Wellington, on the same day, the Maori team just returned from an Australian tour, played a match with a Wellington Rugby representative team, the result being a draw, eight points each. At Dunedin, the American University team met an Otago representative team, the final scores being: Otago, 9; Americans, 3. On Saturday the British team defeated Auckland by 52 points to 9.
