■ June 25. A Dance. An assembly dance, the third of the series, took place in Miss Cox’s rooms, “Te W’hare,” Hereford-street, on Friday night, ami was a great success. The guests were received by the hostesses, Airs Gower-Burns and Airs W. J. Aloore. Mrs Burns wore a cream brocaded satin relieved with gold; Mrs Aloore, a gown of pale grey chiffon taffetas and lace; Aliss Burns, Wedgwood blns satin, with draped skirt; Aliss 11. Burns, black ninon over black satin, with embroideries of jet; Aliss Aloore, frock of turquoise blue ninon: Aliss D. Aloore, shell-pink crepe de chine, with crystal and pearl embroideries; Aliss Theonim (Dunedin), cream satin and net Princess dress; Miss Wood, white net, threaded with pale blue satin ribbon; Aliss * Humphreys, black striped ninon, relieved with cream lace; Aliss Agnes Humphreys, ivory white striped gauze, with cherry coloured roses; Aliss G. Alerton, gown of black spotted net, relieved with emerald green; Aliss Wilding, heliotrope mousseline de soie; Aliss Hanmer, Princess frock of dark blue velvet, with fichu of cream lace; Aliss AL Hanmer, myrtle green velvet, relieved with cream lace; Aliss D. Anderson, pale grey ninon over mauve crepe de chine; Aliss Kitson, white ninon: Aliss Park, ivory striped chiffon and lace; Aliss E. Prins, pale heliotrope chiffon taffetas; Alessrs. Denniston Gibson, Godbv, Anderson, Wildling, Fell, Campbell, 'Wright, Vavasour, Gore, Wood, Lees. Fryer, Boys, Harper, and several others were present. College Conversazione. Canterbury College conversazione was held in the" College Hall on the same evening. There was a very large attendance, the hall being quite filled. The proceedings opened with a concert and short play. The various departments of the College were thrown open to the visitors, who were most interested in watching various experiments—the ma-chine-room of the engineering school, and so on. In the meantime the large hall was cleared for dancing, which commenced at 11 p.m. The chaperons were Airs Blunt and Airs Farr. Several of those who were at the Assembly dance, which took place on the same evening, also attended the. College dance. The lateness of its opening enabled them to do so. Card Party. On Tuesday evening. Airs Collins, Armagh-street, gave a progressive eard party.° Five hundred was the- game chosen. Airs Appleby and Aliss Guthrie won the ladies’ prizes; Air Cooper and Air Simmons the gentlemen’s. Airs Collins was wearing grey silk; Aliss Collins, frock of black net,' relieved with gold braid. Amongst the guests were: Colonel and Airs Hawkins. Air and Airs Evans, Air and Airs Tyers. Airs Appleby, Airs E. Currie, Alisses Jones, Russell, Spooner. Alerton. Croxton. Guthrie. Bruce, Alessrs. Collins. Gould. Cooper, Guthrie, Alurray, Holderness, Alarchant, Parsons, Simmons, and Van Asch. Personal. Air and Airs Harold Abraham (Levin) are the guests of Aliss Humphreys at Fendalton. Aliss Theonim (Dunedin) is paying visits to her Christchurch friends. Mr and Airs Donald AlcLean (Aft. Hutt) have been staying with Airs Nancarrow in Armagh-street. Airs Johnstone (Alount Torlesse) is spending a few days in Christchurch. Aliss Thurston, the matron of the Christchurch Hospital, who is on sick leave, is the guest of Dr. and Airs Stevenson, Webb-street, Merivale. Airs AlcKcllar (Christchurch) is staying in Timaru. Airs Guy Pascoe and Mr and Airs C. Wigley (Christchurch) are also visiting Timaru. Airs Bealey, “Horarata,” is the guest of Aliss B. Russell, Salisbury-street, Christchurch. Air and Airs Heaton Rhodes (Christchurch) left for Sydney this week.
