June 3. The Governor’s Farewell. There has been nothing going on this week but the farewell to laird Plunket, and the levee which lie held on the following day. Concert. The Christchurch Musical Union held their concert in His Majesty’s Theatre on Tuesday evening, when Gounod’s “Faust” was given very successfully. Miss Amy Murphy was to have sung the part of Marguerite, but, ow’ing to the Court mourning, the concert had to be postponed, and Miss Murphy, having Sydney engagements to fulfil, left Christchurch The Society fortunately secured the services of Mrs. Mead, who sang the part charmingly, the other soloists being Mrs. Ernest Barber, Mr. Frank Graham, Mr. Hobbs, and Mr. Sydney Williamson. Mrs. Mead wore a Princess dress of black velvet with square-cut decollete, outlined with white lace; Mrs. Barber’s dress was pale blue chiffon taffeta and white lace; Miss Rima Young (pianiste), froek of white muslin; Miss Packer (leader of orchestra) wore black. Amongst those present were: The Bishop and Mrs. Julius. Miss Julius, Mrs. and Miss Elworthy, Airs. W. Stringer, Mr., Mrs. and Miss Thomas, Mrs. and Miss Burns, Professor and Mrs. Blunt, Air. and Airs. Wood, Air. W. C'otterill, Air. and Airs. N. Mcßeth, Air. and Airs. Jameson, Air. Kaye, Airs. Townend, Aliss Way, Aliss Alurray, Airs, and Aliss Jacobs, Airs, and Aliss Guthrie, the Alisses Aleares, the Alisses Thomas, Air., Airs, and Aliss Lough nan, Mr. and Airs. Evans. Personal. Aliss Boyle (Riccarton) left Christchurch for Wellington on Wednesday. Aliss Somerville has returned to Wellington. While here she was the guest of Airs. Deans, at Riccarton. Visitors to Christchurch include: Aliss Peache (Alt. Somers), Airs. E. Greig (Ashburton), Airs, and Aliss Westmacott (Woodbury), Airs, and Aliss Phillips (The Point) ; the Alisses Knight (Racecourse Hill), have been the guests of Airs. J. Aernon; Mrs. Bristowe (Wellington) is staying with Mrs. Andrew Anderson at Opawa; Aliss Julius (England) is the guest of Airs. Julius at Bishopseourt; Air. and Airs. T. Lance (Horsley Downs). Airs. Lucas has returned to Christchurch from her visit to Blenheim. Aliss Wilding has returned from Nelson; Airs. Beals and Airs. H. Wood from Sumner.
