SORROW IN CANADA.
Ol’l \\\ A. May 8. Sir. Wilfrid Laurier. Prime Minister of Canada, was intensely affected bj the news of the King's death. lie refrained from making any statement until tomorrow. Mr. R. L. Burden. Loader of the Opposition, on receipt of the news, said Canadians believed that King Edward was the greatest living force for right within the Empire. In him died the greatest among the statesmen and diplomats of Europe. Mr. R. Lemieux. Postmaster GeneraL said: ‘'Edward was a great king, a great peacemaker, and a great defender of minorities. His death is the greatest loss the Empire could sustain at this juncture. All French t anadian.s regret his death. In every home there will be sorrow.” Special editions of the newspapers have been published in all tin l leading cities of Canada. Special services will be held in the churches to-morrow. New foundlanders are startled and grieved by the sad news.
