A gathering of a very interesting nature took place at Buchanan’s rooms, Symonds-street, last week, when the members of the Graf ton-road Methodist choir were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Gatland. The occasion marked the twentieth anniversary of Mr. Gatland’s connection with the choir, and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Items were rendered by several members, part songs were sung, and the popular Eyrie Quartet party charmed their hearers, and had to respond to encores. The Rev. H. R. Dewsbury, in a few well-chosen remarks, congratulated Mr. Gatland on the unique occasion, and made special reference to his ability and fidelity as choirmaster during the many years. After Mr. Gatland had responded, a memorable gathering closed with the National Anthem.
