Auckland. wins for farnell, grafton and NORTH SHORE. The cricket championships were advanced another stage on Saturday, at Eden Park. Parnell scored a 3-point win over University, and North Shore and Grafton each had two-point victories over Eden and Fonsonby respectively. The result of the day’s play gives Parnell a lead of two points for the championship. Particular® are:— SENIOR GRADE. FONSONBY V. GRAFTON. The match, Fonsonby v. Grafton, was concluded at Victoria Park. I‘onsonby continued their first innings, which closed for 95, as against the 140 compiled by Grafton. NORTH SHORE V. EDEN. The match between Eden and North Shore was concluded at Devon port on Saturday. With five wickets down, Eden continued their first innings, and were getting dangerously near the North Shore total, with three wickets in hand, when Townsend went on to bowl, and took the three wickets in a few minutes. Eden made 122 runs, eight less than Shore had made in their innings. Shore went in to bat. and after 113 runs had been knocked n-p fairly smartly, the innings closed with seven wickets down. Eden made ready to go in to bat, but just as Shore were taking the field, rain commenced to fall, and as the last half hour of play would probably not affect the result, the two skippers agreed to draw stumps. PARNELL v. UNIVERSITY. The match between Parnell and University ended, as everybody expected it would, in a three-point win for Parnell. Continuing their first innings, I’arnell declared with the score at 17S. University, with a deficit of 121 runs on the first innings score, failed badly again, and were all disposed of for 96. Parnell, 'therefore, won by an innings and 35 runs. The Second Test. The second Test match between the Australians and New Zealand ended in a defeat for the Dominion representatives by 164 runs. Batting first, the visitors made 260. of which Smith was responsible for 102. New Zealand followed with 177, of which Reese made 69, not out. After scoring 232 in their second venture for the loss of five wickets, Mayne scoring 90 before he was run out, the Australians sent New Zealand in again and put them out for the poor total of 151.
