March 4. Tennis and Croquet. A tennis and croquet party was given on Friday afternoon by Mrs. George Helmore at Holmwood-road, Fendalton, as a farewell to Miss Helmore, who is leaving shortly for a trip to England. Mrs. Helmore, who received her guests on the lawn, was wearing a pretty gown of blue Shantung and a large black hat; Miss Helmore, a frock of cream silk voile and laee, cream hat with pink roses. The Theatre. At the Theatre Royal the revival of “The Country Girl” by the Williamson Comedy Company, has proved most popular. Last night a new piece was staged, “Havana,” and will continue till the close of the season. Amongst -the audiences were: Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Elworthy. Mrs. and Miss Harris. The "Besses o’ the Barn” Band give their final concert to-night in Lancaster Park (if fine), King Edward Barracks (if wet). In either place the attendance is sure to be large, owing to the immense popularity of "The Besses” in Christchurch. Farewell Tea.

A farewell morning tea was given yesterday at Broadway’s tea-rooms by Mrs A. Rutherford (Mendip Hills) and her daughters to a number of their friends, prior to their leaving Christchurch today (Friday, 4th) on an extended tour in Europe and America. Amonst others present were: Mrs. Morton Anderson, Mrs. Dick Anderson, Miss Flo Berkeley, Miss Williams, and the Misses Wilson.

Personal. Mr. and Mrs. Wigram' and Miss Wick have left Christchurch on a w.tlkin* tour from Te Allan to Milford Sound Mrs. Henry Wood (Avonside) has been on a visit to Dunedin.

Major and Mrs. Hutton (England), who have been staying at Birch Hili with Mrs. Milton, .have now gone to Longbeach, the guests of Mrs. J C N Grigg.

Mrs. Curnow has returned to Christchurch from Wellington, where she ha.s been staying with friends.-' Miss Anson has returned to Dunedin. Mrs. A. Kaye (Christchurch) is leaving shortly for England and the Continent ° Miss Lyon (Woodbury) is the guest of Mrs. Westenra (Christchurch). Mrs. Kilian (Clent Hills), and Miss Peache (Mt. Somers) are staying at Christchurch.
