January 28. Tennis Party. Last week Mrs. W. Anderson gave an enjoyable tennis party. Amongst those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Palmer. Mrs. and Miss Brettargh. Mr. and Mrs. and Miss Lethbridge, Miss Mason. Mrs. James Anderson, Miss E. Anderson. Messrs. Palmer, Chamberlain, and others. “ The Country Girl.” J. C. Williamson’s Musical Comedy Company held a two nights’ season in the Opera House last. .week...when the ‘■Country Girl” and “Havana” were staged. There were excellent houses, but we were all disappointed they did not play “The King of Cadonia” instead of “Tlie Country Girl,” as that piece was staged in Wanganui some years ago. Amongst the audiences for both plays were Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Christie, Miss G. Christie. Mrs. L. Steedman (jPalmerston North), Mr. and Mrs. Imlay Saunders, Mr. and Mrs. G. Lomas. Miss Nixon, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Greenwood, Mr and Mrs O. Lewis (Fordell), Mr and Mrs. John Stevenson, Mr. R. Stevenson, Miss Ida Stevenson. Mr. Harper, Mr. Harding, and others. Croquet Tournament, Last week the tinals for the croquet tournament in Class B for Mrs. Pharazyn’s prize was played between Mrs. Stone and Miss E. Taylor, the former being victorious. Owing probably to Saturday being Anniversary Day and the Caledonian sports held, which were very well attended, there were only a few at the croquet courts. On Saturday, at the Campbell-street tennis courts, there was a fair number of players and spectators, amongst them Dr. and Mrs. Christie, Dr. and Mrs. Wall, Miss Wilford, Mr. and Mrs. Paterson, Mr. and Mrs. Good. Miss Bayly, of New Plymouth, is staying in Wanganui with Mrs. McNaughton Christie. Aliss Brabant, of Napier, is staying in Wanganui with Mrs. John Anderson. Mrs. W. Rev. and Mrs. Bartlett, of Oamaru, who have been staying in Wanganui witli relations, have returned to their home. Dr. and Mrs. Earle and Mr. and Mrs. H. Good, of Wanganui, left this week by motor car for Rotorua, where they will spend some weeks. Mrs. R. Stevenson and Miss Ida Stevenson. of Wanganui, have returned from their visit to New Plymouth.
