, December 31. Christmas Weather. AH the Christmas festivities in Napier were marred by the weather. Kain threatened on Christmas Eve, and materialised with a vengeance on Christmas Day. Boxing Day broke clear and fine, and lasted throughout the week, but it is again threatening for the New Year holidays. Many people are out of town, and I have heard of several large house parties in the country. Personal. Miss Hunter and Miss May Hunter are visiting relatives on the West Coast. Miss Waterhouse is staying with her svster, Mrs. Busby, in Gisborne. Mrs. Wood has been spending Christmas at Kereru with Mrs. Duff. Mrs. Gerald Stead has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Hoodley, at ‘‘Hawthornden,” Napier, and returns to her home in Christchurch shortly. Mr., Mrs., and Miss Hunter-Brown, of Wairoa. arrive from England early in the Ne w Tear. Mrs. John Moore had a most enjoyable house party at River Bank, Ressington, for the holidays. Miss Kearney spent Christmas with friends at Havelock. Mrs. Bowen and her daughter and son have gone to Woodville for six weeks. The marriage of Mr. Herbert Coleman, son of Mr. .1. H. Coleman, of “Waititirau,” Napier, and Miss May Swinburne, daughter of the Rev. Swinburne, takes place at Te Ante on the 18th of Januarv.
