NELSON.

December 9. At Home. A large “At Home” was given at Cable Bay iby the superintendent and staff of the Eastern Extension Company on Saturday. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. Wright and Mr. and Mrs. Airey, and a most enjoyable afternoon was spent. Delicious afternoon tea was served on the lawn, and various games of tennis were played. A putting competition was won by Mrs. J. Sharp and Mr. Rowley, Miss Leggatt and' Mr. H. Cock coming second. The whistling race was won by Mrs. A. Russell and Mr. Johnson, and an egg and spoon race by Miss Bamford. Most of the guests wore white frocks and pretty flower-trimmed hats. Mrs. Wright was wearing saxe bine linen, with pleated skirt, lingerie blouse of lace and net, wide blue hat with floral spray; Mrs. Airey, white embroidered muslin, black hat with pink roses; Mrs. Renwick, 'black silk with long coat, black plumed hat; Mrs. Robertson, black costume; Mrs. Leggatt; Miss Leggatt, muslin frock, leghorn hat with grapes; Mrs. Russell (Na-pier), green striped linen; Mrs. A. Glasgow, green silk, plumed hat; Mrs. P. Andrew, white embroidered linen, black hat; Mrs. C. F. Fell, smart white linen, straw hat wreathed with roses; Mrs. G. Hoiby, green striped tailor-made, cream straw' hat with large roses; Mrs. J. Sharp, white lingerie go-wn, floral hat; Mrs. Robison, grey tweed coat and skirt, small blue hat; Mrs. Coote, white muslin, handsome white lace coat, small floral toque; Miss Lorimer, mauve voile, mauve tulle hat with white plume; Mrs. H. Cock, mauve striped crepe, hat with roses. Others present were: Miss Richmond, Mrs. C. Green, Mrs. R. A small afternoon tea was given by Miss Muriel de Castro for Miss A. Russell (Napier). Some of the guests were: Mrs. Russell, Mrs. H. Cock, Misses Booth, Reed (Wellington), Leggatt, Fell, Houlker, and Ledger. An Enjoyable Party.

An enjoyable -party was given for Miss von Dadelszen (Wellington) by the Misses Cock. Each guest came in fancy dress, the. prize for the most original being won by Miss L. Tomlinson, Miss Leggatt being second. Progressive games were played, the prize falling to Miss Nicholson. Mrs. Cock received in a black silk costume, with vest of white lace; Miss Cock, black satin goiwn. Others present were:—Misses Cock (2), Mrs. H. Cock, Mrs. A. Glasgow, Mrs. von Dadelszen (Napier), Miss von Dadelszen (Wellington), Misses Tomlinson, Misses Clark, Mrs. A. Edwards, Misses Ledger, Misses Fell, Miss Houlker, Miss Maginity, Miss W<>bb, Miss de Castro, Miss Trolove, Misses Blackett, Miss Stevens, Miss Booth, Miss Reed (Wellington). Personal. Mrs. Lyell has gone to Blenheim. Mrs. Nicholas (Hawera) is the guest of Mrs. Richmond. Miss E. Ward (Wellington) is staying here. The Rev. J. Hornby-Spear, of Double Bar, Sydney, is on a visit to Nelson. Mrs. von Dadelszen (Napier) is visiting Nelson. Miss Fell has returned from Napier. Mr. and Mrs. D. Edwards have returned from their visit to Mrs. George Wits, Marlborough. Judge Denniston is in Nelson for a few

days.
