PALMERSTON NORTH.

November 4. On the Tennis Courts. A high wind has made Palmerston its headquarters for weeks past, and is making tennis and other sports an effort rather than a pleasure. Lately I have noticed on the courts Mrs. H. R. Waldegrave and Miss Trixie Waldegrave, Mrs. Thompson, Miss Wilson, Miss Porter, Mrs. Pickett, Mrs. BendaJl, Mrs. and Miss Warburton, Miss M. Waldegrave, Mrs. F. S. McRae, Mrs. W. L. Fitzherbert. Bridge.

Mrs. Randolph, College-street, entertained a few friends at bridge on last Friday night. Vivid scarlet geraniums made a brilliant decoration in the draw-ing-room. Miss Randolph wore a cream crepe de chine frock, the bodice embroidered in cream; Mrs. Waldegrave, black silk with cluster of pink roses on corsage; Mrs. Moirali, cream silk and lace; Mrs. Bendall, cream and pink muslin and lace; Mrs. Reed, white pin spotted muslin with knot of pink roses; Mrs. C. E. Waldegrave, fine black silk canvas voile with cream lace vest; Miss Trixie Waldegrave, pale green crepe de chine, cluster of rich red roses on corsage. Messrs. Waldegrave, Morrali, Rennell, Keeble, Tyerman, Collins, and Guy Reed were also present.

Feilding Races, The Feilding Races attracted the usual crowd from here on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The weather was beautifully fine, with the exception of the permanent wind I spoke of. Dr. and Mrs. Wilson, Mr. Waterfield, Miss F. Fraser, Mr and Mrs Louisson, Mrs and Miss Warburton, Mrs. Tripe, Mrs. J. P. Innes, Mrs W. L. Fitzherbert, Mrs. F. S. Mcßae. Mrs. Broad, and Mrs. Sim were a few who went over.

Bridge Party. Last night Mrs. MeKnight, Queenstreet, gave a small bridge party. Pink ivy geranium decorated the drawingroom mantelpiece and gailly coloured sweet peas the supper table. Mrs. McKniglit wore black crepe de chine with cream spotted net yoke, finished with narrow black velvet ribbon: Mrs. C. E. Waldegrave, black silk, a touch of pale blue silk showing on the creain lace vest; Mrs. Morrah. creain silk with cream net and lace trimming; Mrs. A. Rennell, white chiffon taffeta, cluster of pink roses on corsage; Mrs. D. Reed, cream taffeta and chiffon, pale blue silk in hair; Mrs. H. R. Waldegrave, black aceordeon pleated chiffon, pink roses on bodice; Miss Waldegrave, pale blue satin charmeuse, deep crimson roses on corsage; Miss Randolph, lavender crepe de chine, the bodice embroidered in gold and deep shade of mauve; Miss F. ' Randolph, pale blue silk with cream lace and pale blue silk fringe; Mrs. Coombs, black silk and lace; Miss Coombs, blue chiffon taffeta with net and gold embroidery. Messrs. Morrah, A. C. Matheson, W’aldegrave (2).'Sutherland, Armstrong, Rennell. D. Reed, Keeble, and Tyerman were the guests present. Personal. Mrs. Porter has returned from a short stay in Hawera. Mrs. Adams is home again, after spending some weeks in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. F. Nathan arrived from England last week, and are living in Mr. M. Cohen’s residence, Grey-street. Mrs. Cohen has gone to Wellington on a prolonged holiday. Miss Porter is staying in Wellington with friends.
