His Excellency the Governor gave a dinner at Wellintgon last week in honour of the King’s Birthday. The invited guests included the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph G. Ward), the Minister for Internal Affairs (Hon. D. Buddo), Mr Justice Cooper, the Mayor of Wellington (Dr. Newman) and various foreign consuls. Mr. W. Corry, of Wanganui, was a passenger by the Main Trunk train on Wednesday, and is putting up at the Star Hotel during his visit. Mr. Murdoch MeLean, of Auckland, who has been on a visit home since Friday week, returned South by Thursday night’s train. Messrs. J. D. Hall (chairman) and A. L. Parsons (deputy chairman) represented the Christchurch Fire Board at the Conference of fire boards held at Wellington.—Press Association. The Rev. A. South to his new appointment by train last week. It has been decided (reports the “New Zealand Tablet”) to tender a farewell, in connection with the silver jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood, to the Rev. Dr. Cleary on Monday evening, November 29. The Rev. Dr. Cleary leaves Dunedin for Wellington on the following morning, where he will join the lonic, which sails for Monte Video on December 2.
