Mr. Walter Buchanan, of Auckland, has, by Royal command of His Majesty King George H. of Tonga, designed and built a cake for the coming nuptials of that Christian potentate, which has probably never had its peer in the annals of Auckland cakes. It is a truly dazzling creation, weighing 500lbs, measuring 4ft across its base, and standing in its live tiers, surmounted by the crown and bouquet, a full eight feet. The diminutive structure alongside is a wedding cake of ordinary dimensions. WHAT AUCKLANDERS WILL SEE NEXT YEAR. An important announcement is made by cablegram that the P. and O. Company has decided that three of their steamers during February, March and April next shall continue their outward voyage from Sydney to Auckland, returning to Sydney and thence proceeding homeward.
