October 7. The Bowling Club. The Nelson Bowling Green was forrrally opened on Saturday, by the President, Canon Lucas, after which Mrs. Lucas rolled the “Jack” across the green. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs. Lucas, who wore a costume of myrtle green face cloth with green bonnet. The bevy of girls who served tea included Miss Lulu Lucas, Misses Perrin, Coster, Grace. Among others present were: Miss Cock, Mrs. and Miss Maginnity, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Houlker, Mrs. A. H. Bisley, Miss Bisley, Mrs. W. Rout, Dr. Hamilton (Wakefield), Mrs. G. Harkness, Misses Talbot (Richmond), Mrs. Trask, Hon. F. Trask, Dr. Wright. A Dance.

A “surprise” dance was given last week by the Messrs. Hamilton at “Mayloyd.” Mrs. Hoby was wearing pale green silk covered with net; Miss Richmond, black silk, trimmed with panels of white Limerick lace; Miss Clark, rose taffeta; Miss Ledger, white chiffon; Miss Monroe (Palmerston North), Empire gown of white charmeuse; Miss Blundell, green satin; Miss F. Edwards, pale pink chiffon; Miss G. Harley, blue satin Empire gown; Miss Sutherland Smith, soft white silk; Miss A. Kelling, mauve taffeta; Miss F. Coster, green Directoire gown; Miss Houlker, pale blue taffeta; Miss Maginnity, blue silk, with berthe of real lace; Miss Glasgow, mauve charmeuse; Miss Selanders, pale pink net; Miss de Castro, white lace; Miss D. Mrs. J. H. Cock gave a large “afternoon tea” at Churchlhill for Miss Mabel Glasgow. The guests were entertained 1 with songs by the Misses Bamford, Leggatt and Cock, and pianoforte solos by Mrs. Anderson (England), and Miss Phyllis Fell. Mrs. Cock was wearing brown silk voile over glace, with yellow lace vest and long sleeves; Misses Cock, saxe blue cloth Empire costumes; Miss Cock, black silk; Mrs. D. Edwards, pale grey charmeuse, pale pink chiffon hat; Mrs. Hoby, grey striped coat and skirt, rose covered hat; Miss M. Glasgow, cream costume, cream lace blou-e; Mrs. R. Fell, grey cloth, pale blue silk hat; Mrs. Anderson (England), grey Empire coat with revers of black satin, black plumed hat; Miss Blackett, brown cloth, green hat; Miss Richmond, green cloth; Miss F. Edwards, dark grey striped cloth, pink hat with roses; Miss C. Edwards, navy blue; Miss Gibbs, green silk, green hat with floral wreath; Miss Mules, cream cashmere cloth, pale blue hat; Miss Booth, saxe blue cloth, blue hat; Miss P. Fell, grey pleated coat and skirt, pink straw hat with large roses; Mrs. F. Glasgow, navy cloth, black hat. Some others prsent were: —Misses Turner (Timaru) , Webb, Monroe, (Palmerston), Selanders, Clendenen (Melbourne), Langley-Adams, Houlkei*, Leggait, Nieholson, Kirton, Clarke, Blundell, D.'Fell, Clark (2), Trolove, Bamford, Maginnity. Another large “At Home” was given by Mrs. Wright for her daughter, Miss Dorothv Wright, who is leaving this week for Hong Kong, where her marriage lakes place. Some of the guests were: Mrs. Rose., Mts. and Miss Nicholson, Misses Edwards, Misses Coster, Misses Cock. Miss Ledger, Misses Bamford. Mi-s Clendenen. Miss G. Harley, Misses Maginnitv. The prize for nn amusing competition was won by Miss Vera Bamford.
