September 16. Fancy Dress Ball. The juvenile fancy dress ball, given annually by the Ladies’ Croquet Club, was this year an unqualified success. The Druids’ Hall was crowded with small dancers, and presented a very gay and animated appearance. Some of the children in fancy dress were: —Miss B. Andrew, “peasant”; Master Henry, “bowler”; Master King, “footballer.” The ladies of the committee, who all wore powder and patches and red roses in their hair, were:—Mrs. Coote, silver sequined net over white satin; Mrs. Clark, black; Mrs. Dodson; Mrs. Macquarie; Mrs. Blundell; Mrs. Booth, grey floral silk; Miss Richmond, black, with lace overdress; Mrs. Allen, black chiffon; Mrs. de Castro, pink brocade. Others present were: —Mrs. P. Moore, black; Mrs. Harris; Miss Roberts; Mrs. Perrin; Mrs. Biggwither; Mrs. C. Y, Fell, grey satin, with panels of lace; Mrs. E. Rose; Mrs. Ernest Izard, yellow brocade and lace; Mrs. Blechynden, purple silk; Misses Gilkison, red satin; Mrs. Childs, black taffeta; Mrs. P. Andrew, cream striped glace; Miss Clark, vieux-rose taffeta; Miss Webb, pale blue silk; Miss de Castro, pink Empire frock; Miss Heaps (Wanganui), black

taffeta; Miss D. Bell, grey chiffon; Miss Maginity, white muslin; Miss Blackett, yellow satin; Misses Ledger, black; Miss G. Harley, white, satin, Empire gown; Miss Booth, white taffeta; Miss Houlker, pale blue silk; Miss Bundell, green satin Empire gown; Miss Trolove, deep pink satin, relieved with black; Messrs. Macquarie, Clark, Booth, Coote, de Castro, Henry, Grace, Heaps, P. Moore, Harris, Hamilton, Houlker, Hair, Allen, Hanron, Jackson and Dr. Andrew. Bridge. An enjoyable bridge party was given by Mrs. Barclay Harrison. The prizes were won by Miss Richmond and Miss Stuart-Forbes. Some of the players were: —Misses Booth, Blundell, Ledger, Leggatt, Gilkison, and SutherlandSmith. Personal. Mrs. A. Glasgow has returned from Wellington. Mr. A. P. Burnes has gone on a visit to Sydney. Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Fowler have returned from their trip to England. Miss Judson has returned, via Sydney and Wellington, from India. Mrs. and Miss Sclanders are in Wellington. Mrs. J. Sharp has returned from Auckland.
